kamallatif Ruthless Window is a beautiful, emotionally powerful, uplifting and poignant collection of songs that take you on a very personal and melodic journey through the mind, soul and experiences of a hugely talented, funny and thought provoking musician. The wide range of emotions and themes, ranging from family, lost love, politics, identity, friendship, hope and modern life have something for everyone and are testimony to the artist’s breadth. The Ukulele never sounded so powerful and relevant. Favorite track: This Can't Go On Forever.

White Heat 01:57
Gaseous forms Human eyes Swimming forth That new disguise White heat Bright light Bringing It home It’s out of sight White heat Bright light Bringing it home It’s out of sight 2am The night bus home Sleeping in parks all alone Thought process a complete mess Thought process a complete mess White heat Bright light Bringing It home It’s out of sight

Another month in a brand new town Barely leaving the eiderdown Suckling and needling away… heyyy You twist and turn as you face the truth Your avatar is a troublesome goose And all your love is melted to the screen Permanent present unreal future Your head is small but the ego suits yer Looking for some meaning in the dirt and the muck and the air You cry at Pixar but not your own life No one’s as cold as your secret dream wife The fear is always that there’s nothing there etc

Please Don’t Be Cruel A month becomes three as easy as crying You know when to laugh by the way that i pause Is anything there I constantly wonder We downplay our charms but fixate upon the flaws The biggest of doubts live rent free in my head Infinite futures and pasts all relived The moment you wake up is when you start trying We all learn to love but you never regret to forgive You couldn’t have known You couldn’t have known You couldn’t have known You couldn’t have seen A world that’s like this Don’t beat yourself up She wasn’t to know She wasn’t to know Please don’t be cruel You couldn’t of seen A world that’s like this Don’t beat yourself up She couldn’t have known She couldn’t have known Please don’t be cruel

Caution Fear, lust and caution These are things that are missing from my life Chords stuck inside forever You listen to a tune to get it out of your head But this can’t go on forever And you know you’ll escape soon And you know that then you’ll find something new If the future terrifies you And the pastt is to forget Then it migh betime to try to try and live Distance Unreal distance The trains have messed with our sense of local time Midnight Midnight in London It may not feel it but it has just begun

about

I have been living with friends by the sea in Kent for lockdown III, as my "looking after people's cats while they go on holiday" lifestyle does not work when people are not allowed to go on holiday.

These people have treated me with a lot of kindness, more than they will ever know. I have internalised a lot of terrible ideas and conclusions over the years, and one of them is that I am impossible to live with (unless you're a cat) and that absolutely no-one should be forced to spend any extended amount of time with me (unless you're a cat).

I don't think that now, and Ruth and Bill area a lot of the reason for that. They have (intentionally and perhaps accidentally) incorporated me into their routine, and for the first time in a while this has given my life a bit of structure (coffee! At the same time! Every! Day!) while I get on with various creative projects.

This album was an experiment, and as such it is very rough around the edges. The idea was to write one new song a day, in a stream-of-consciousness style. Most of the lyrics were improvised on the spot, with only a tiny modicum of editing. On a few occasions, the lyrics and melodies I sang for the very first time to whatever chords I had come up with are the ones that appear on the finished album. So please don't expect Kid A levels of production, but a lot of the fears, thoughts and hopes that have been rattling around my brain have been poured into these songs, unwittingly or otherwise.

I wouldn't usually ask for monies for my creative things. I've been doing a free sketch comedy podcast for a year, because my goodneses we all need something to laugh about at the moment. But doing a debut album felt different; also, I am unemployed. So any monies you may be willing to give me for my creative labour, I will be enormously appreciative.

about

James Walsh London, UK

James wrote his first song in 2009, when his then partner bought him a ukulele for his 30th birthday. He wrote a song about Laika, the first dog in space, and then got distracted by other things. This is his first attempt to write a coherent album of songs, but now this particular monkey is off his back he hopes to write a second album before the year is out. ... more
